FAQ

What is the purpose of this blog?

It is my hope that this blog:
Will help people.
Will harbor my thoughts on art process.
Will allow others to surpass me (that shouldn't be too hard!).

What about the animation tips? This blog seems to be all about GraphicsGale!

Knowing an interface well makes doing work smooth, fun and creative.
When learning a new software it's easy to get frustrated.
This comes from knowing what you want to do, but not knowing how to do it, especially if it is something very simple.
I want to provide information about the theory as well as the tools.
It would be mean to explain how to approach an animation without providing a way of actually doing it physically.
There is a lot of information to cover.
This blog will take me some time to complete.
Thanks for your patience!
Animation topics are coming soon!

What about the F1 help file? Isn't that good enough?

The help file for GG is decent.
If you haven't read it you SHOULD (and every other help file you have).
It explains some topics really well but lacks in other areas.
I'd like to explain features thoroughly in context of what they can be used for.
With as many images as possible!

I didn't understand part of a topic / what you said doesn't work. What gives?

Let me know!
I'll attempt to improve any areas that don't make any sense, or are lacking in good examples.
I don't always finish a topic completely on the first draft.
I intend to have example images for ALL topics but I sometimes get to them later.
If you see "more coming soon..." at end of a section assume it will make more sense later.

You don't cover a topic I'd like to know about / am having trouble with. Do you take requests?

Yup!
Drop me a suggestion and if it's reasonable I'll get to it eventually.
I do not have ALL the answers but I'll do what I can.

Why are the drawings so bad around here?

While I may have a few things to say about it, the focus of this blog is not on pixel art specific drawing technique.
There are many other sources on the internet that explain this topic VERY well.
Repeating that information here would be redundant.
I'll post some links to good sites for that kind of stuff.
Search around for other sources as well.

The production value of images is kept fairly low to accommodate the fact that this blog needs many many images.
I do this blog for free in my spare time, which isn't much.
Simple, straight forward drawings are fast and easy to create.
Visual communication does not require absolute refinement.
The art here is akin to white board drawings.
Their purpose is to clearly communicate and supplement a message, while being slightly appealing and entertaining.
Also I'm not the greatest artist!
Many people are much better than me.
And I would argue that there are no "bad" drawings, but I'll save that for another time.

more coming soon...

    1. Yo!
Haven't updated in a while because I've been crazy busy.
This blog still needs a lot of work.

There are different types of inspiration.
I want people to think "This guy sucks at art! I could do way better!"
      Because you can!
Practice hard and be a great artist!
I will be very happy for you!

A backfire on that is the crappy drawings may make the text appear less trust worthy.
But I assure you my intentions are not to spread bad information.
Here I try to present basic tools and theories as clearly as possible.
It's up to you to do great things with them.
Whether you are an accomplished artist or just starting, the BASICS are extremely important to think about, discuss, revisit and utilize through out the course of your career.
If you've gained even a small bit of insight from this blog then I am happy.

My more polished art can be found on at my other blog: http://kirkbarnett.blogspot.com/
Also, a million other places on the internet exist to find awe and inspiration.
I should add links to art galleries that I have personally found inspiration in.

Cool website, thanks for the link, I think I've seen it around.
I'll read it more closely later.
Perhaps I'll add it to the link page.

      Thanks for feedback!
